For our monthly event in May, Architecture for Humanity Toronto presents a fresh new take on their discussion groups: Quick Connections, a marriage between Speed Networking and their well-known Discussion Groups. Add two people, five minutes, one discussion topic, and you get one unique networking experience. It's fast talk on design for common good. Earth Construction Workshop in Toronto

Harbourfront Community Centre Facelift

This month members of the Toronto Chapter Committee are heading to the Harbourfront Community Centre on April 28th along with 257 Starbucks volunteers to give the centre a face-lift, just in time for spring!! During the last month we visited the centre and came up with some design ideas for utilizing their interior spaces more efficiently. Rooms we focused on include: Room 13 (an art studio run by kids), The after 4 room (after school program for children), a youth room (for teens), and Family Program room.

UPCOMING EVENT: COMMUNITY PANEL

We've been working hard for the last month to find design students to present during our Community Panel March 28th, 2012. We've found four great projects and can't wait to see them! Projects include: 1. A wellness centre in Toronto for people with disabilities 2. Permanent reconstruction after the earthquake and resulting tsunami on The Mentawai Islands of Indonesia 3. Architecture as an agent of informality: looking at informal settlements in Cairo 4. Modification of shipping containers for use as affordable housing applications in Brazil and Toronto

CALLING ALL ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS !

What is the value of innovative design if it isn't shared? Architecture for Humanity Toronto is hosting a Community Panel for design students on March 28th, 2012. We’re assembling a panel of professionals and community members in the architecture field to share their knowledge and experience with current students. We invite you to come and present your work, whether it be completed or in progress, to gain insight and any needed advice. Presentations will last approximately 15 minutes, with a Q&A to follow.

Volunteer Open House - SUCCESS!

Last night Architecture for Humanity Toronto hosted a Volunteer Open House at No One Writes to the Colonel. Our mission was to reconnect with the community and our volunteers. The night was a great success and we met some amazing people. We're looking for new members to join our steering committee and help get things rolling for 2012! If you weren't able to make the event but would still like the volunteer and/or become a member, please let us know! Exciting things are planned for the year, lets get them started!
