Architecture for Humanity Toronto is a volunteer organization that promotes architectural and design solutions, as well as advocacy and public education to help build a sustainable and socially equitable living and working environment in Toronto.

We are a local Canadian chapter of Architecture for Humanity International, a non-profit organization, founded in 1999 to foster architectural solutions to global, social and humanitarian crises.

Our diverse membership includes architects, planners and designers, as well as activists, students, and concerned citizens, brought together by the common goal of transforming Toronto into a beautiful, livable and sustainable city.

2013 Lecture & Symposium Series - Thinking Local

Chapter Event posted by Ashley Adams on April 10, 2013
Join us for a series of events discussing communities and architecture. How do communities impact architecture, and how does architecture impact communities? We know how to create more sustainable buildings, but how can we create more sustainable communities? As our lives become increasingly interconnected how do the spaces, in which we interact, adapt to an ever-changing social landscape? We'll explore these issues and more in three dynamic evenings with local and international architects who have pioneered socially engaged design practices. Joe Lobko, Partner, DTAH

Chapter Event posted by Ashley Adams on January 21, 2013
We’re hosting a lecture series and we need YOUR help with the event posters. Our theme is ‘What Next’. WHY we should be practicing public-interest architecture is so 90s… we need to focus on the HOW and design like we give a damn. Our lecture series will be focused on design professionals responding and DOING. We’re asking our followers to explore the idea of the ‘question mark’: place it throughout the city, use found objects, or create a crop circle – we welcome all ideas

volunteering interest

Comment by Anson Tse on May 11, 2013 to Contact Information

Hi Ashley,

I cam across architecture for humanity's "Design like you give a damn 2" publication and became really interested in your organization's work.  Being an aspiring undergraduate architectural student at the University of Toronto I want to get involved in your organizations work and see volunteering for your organization as an excellent opportunity to both involve myself in meaningful design work and further my education.

I would love to get involved but cannot seem to view the Toronto chapter's current projects; my own interests lie in the design process, specifically in communicating with communities to meet their needs but would also love to participate in the numerous other facets of your operation.

Being a first year undergraduate, my program skills are currently limited to sketchup, photoshop, InDesign, and the Microsoft office suite but I am looking to develop my skills with BIM software such as revit and autocad.  Also,I am currently spending the summer in Edmonton but will be returning to Toronto for the winter and fall terms of 2013-14 and may be spending the summer of 2014 in Toronto.

I hope to hear from you soon and learn more about the amazing opportunities the Toronto chapter has!

Regards,

Anson

Volunteer / Opportunities for Design Services

Comment by hbl33 on July 7, 2012 to Contact Information

Hello,

I am deeply interested in volunteering for the Toronto chapter of Architecture for Humanity, as well as engaging in upcoming design projects taking place within the organization.

My name is Hobeen Lee, and I am a recent graduate from OCAD University in Toronto majoring in Environmental Design. I'm actively seeking opportunities for architectural/design professions, as well as voluntary services with the aspects of design and collaboration. I have been volunteering in many events  oriented into design advocacy sponsored by universities and design groups dedicating to advocate design as tools to improve human well-being and community outreaches.

I believe that the Toronto chapter, and the organization as a whole, offer ideal means to enrich the experiences of members in design/architecture professions, collaborations as well as reaching out to the community as means of education.

Thank you, and I await your reply,

Ho-Been Lee

Hello, my name is Sun and I'm studying Environmental Design in OCADU.

Sustainability has always been one of my main interests and I even did a project that involves an earth wall construction.

If there is any spots available, I'd like to experience the process of making these structure first hand.

Thank you

Thanks, I have worked in the affordable, non-profit construction for Habitat for Humanity.  Also, LEED Certified.  Have an interest in this material/method of construction.
